Description
Right outside the boundary of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, the charming town of Townsend, Tennessee is one of the places that is known of as "the gateway to the Smokies." On my frequent trips to the park, I always drive through Townsend and had gone by this barn set back a ways from the highway in a large field. I've been driving this route regularly for the last five years and had never noticed this barn until one morning when the perfect light was hitting the barn just right. I passed it before I could pull off the road and get stopped safely and found a place to turn around, so that I could go back and check it out a little more closely. I discovered that the barn was a quilt barn in a beautiful setting with the foothills as a backdrop. After taking pictures of the barn from every possible angle, I returned to my car and continued to my destination. Now I can hardly ever pass by this spot without stopping to take at least a few shots.
