Description
Douglas Dam is part of the Tennessee Valley Authority's flood control system and is located in Dandridge, Tennessee. You can always count on plenty of great blue herons, American bald eagles, and osprey competing for food at the site. At certain times of the day, a loud alarm horn will sound, the gates of the dam open, and water surges into the river along with plenty of fish. The water at these times is rough and that's why a large sign is posted right in front of the dam, warning of dangerous waters and violent surges. The birds of prey navigate the rough waters quite well as they swoop in and out grabbing fish and then many times stealing another from one of their fellow hunters. It's quite a show and always a great opportunity for good pictures. The poor fish, freshly caught and lying on the concrete walk, is the source of conflict for these two. After this shot was taken, a full blown fight breaks out with the one who caught the fish being the final victor.
