Description
Originally named the Saint Maur Church and constructed near the end of the 5th century, the name of the church was changed to Church of Saint Nizier when the relics of Nizier, primate of Lyon, were brought there by Bishop Gallomagne in 582, seven years after Nizier's death. In its present form the structure dates back to the 16th century, with its square tower completed in 1619. When I visited the church on a late summer morning, the light streaming through the many windows was just perfect. I loved the golden color of the light and the way the corresponding shadows helped accent special elements of the interior.
